Nick Johal joined the team in 2014 as Head of Fixed Income. Identifying an opportunity that exists within synthetic Credit markets and great synergies with our client base, he has been an important addition to the team. He previously spent 14 years at Barclays Capital, most recently running the Fixed Income team within Investor Solutions. Nick was responsible for distributing approximately GBP2bn nominal of Retail Bonds since the inception of the Order Book for Retail Bonds, including the GBP300m 8y LSE and GBP265m National Grid linker. He is regularly invited to speak at the LSE and other industry conferences, gaining a very strong reputation in this area of the market. Early successes in the Retail Bond space led to mandates for successful equity IPO's and Investment Trust launches, the highlight of which was a senior role in the privatisation of Royal Mail (Intermediary Offer.) Previous roles including Multi-Asset Structured Products Sales, Prime Brokerage, Derivatives Operations and Collateral Management.
Concerns around duration, liquidity, valuations and supply in Credit have prompted investors to look for a more flexible solution. Nick believes many of the historical challenges and risks of investing in corporate bonds, which sought to be mitigated by Retail Bonds, still persist and solutions exist using synthetic credit structures such as Credit-Linked Notes, Bond Re-packs and Index Tranches.
